We have designed a bookworms’ friendly bookshop. The main concept draws from the act of reading as well as the actual book as an object. A new but yet familiar and recognizable bookshop that attracts the book-loving public. Both the linear floor plan that opens up to a green garden in the rear end of the shop as well as the height of the two-storey entrance are the two axes on which the idea of the “bookstore-library” was based. The design aims to drive the guest in those two directions: up towards the menzannine as well as towards the back garden making the best use of the volume and dimensions of the space. Entering the bookshop the guest encounters a 5m height bookcase right opposite a gallery of 30 portraits in black and white of the owner’s favorite authors.
