APARTMENT IN PSIRI I
PROTOGENOUS 8, ATHENS
The loft is situated in a former six storey industrial building in downtown Athens. It is a 65m2 bright, open plan space on the fifth floor. It benefits from south facing windows and a private veranda, which offers extraordinary views to the Acropolis. The architectural intervention focuses on the industrial feeling that the space evokes respecting the former use and story of the building. The use of light and texture are the main design tools. The original, concrete structure and green terrazzo floor are preserved, while the 70s-style mood is refreshed with modern details. The luminous living space with two large sofas opens up to a large dining and kitchen area which is semi divided from the sleeping area with a metal and glass structure. There is a constant dialogue between black and white elements, light and darkness, raw and polished surfaces, views to both Acropolis and industrial Athens, which give the space a unique character. Special attention was given, during the design, so that the space offers a private shelter inside the dense urban landscape of Athens.
