100 INTERIORS AROUND THE WORLD
Greek Chic
Impressed by its dignity, Penny Loukakou of architectones02 bought this classical building in the district of Pangrati in 2005 and set about turning it into a new home for her family of four, transforming the severely neglected property with sensitivity and contemporary ideas.
She also built an extension of three bedrooms and two bathrooms to the original 19th century structure. Inside, the interplay of black and white is a key theme, most notably in the handcrafted cement-tile floors that dominate the living area – their pattern reminds the owner of the graphic art of M.C. Escher.
