RHINOCEROS BAR

RHINOCEROS BAR
ASKLIPIOU 22, ATHENS
We redesigned Rhinoceros bar having in mind its regulars and its particular style. The design concept is mainly a game with mirrors and reflections. We edited photos of our favorite musicians making life size prints on mirrors. So you feel like having a drink with Nick Cave, Blixa and Cat Power. You’re reflected through Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Bowie, Debbie Harry. You find yourself somewhere between Thurston Moore and Patti Smith, Lou Reed and Nico. The mirrors are placed in pieces forming a puzzle. At the rear end of the bar, Jarmusch and Strummer, in New York provide the backdrop.
The color palette ranges between four shades of green. The double height front space is lit up with neon letters forming the word Rhinoceros, along with dozens of hanging light bulbs, that catch your eye and makes you look up towards a mezzanine level.
On this mezzanine level, we designed a long wooden bar overlooking the main bar area as well as Asklipiou Str. This elevated bar is also used as a bookshelf. Rhinoceros’ former trademark, photo frames of music albums, book covers and artists, cover the loft walls. The upper space has a lounge semi private feeling. The green kentia palm plant and three “expressionist” paintings by Achilles Christidis, emphasize the Rinokero’s theme. It’s an ideal place for coffee, chat or reading.
